Day 1Your Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Walking Safari starts early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. After meeting your guide, you will travel north towards Nakasongola. The journey takes you through Uganda's countryside, with opportunities to see local communities, farms and changing landscapes along the way.
Upon arrival at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you will check in and meet your ranger before beginning the walking rhino tracking experience.
Walking Rhino Tracking — The main activity of the day is a guided walk through the sanctuary in search of white rhinoceroses. Your ranger will lead you through the bush while explaining how rhinos are monitored and protected. Because the rhinos move freely within the sanctuary, the exact walking route and duration can vary depending on where the animals are located.
When rhinos are found, you will have an opportunity to observe them from a safe distance while your ranger explains their behavior, social structure and conservation story. The walking experience is different from a conventional game drive because you explore the habitat on foot and become more aware of tracks, vegetation, birds and other signs of wildlife.
After the rhino tracking experience, you will have lunch before beginning the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Depending on your departure time and interests, an additional birding or nature experience can be arranged. You will arrive in Kampala or Entebbe later in the afternoon or evening, marking the end of your safari.
