Arrival in Entebbe & Transfer to Murchison Falls

Airport pickup · Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (optional) · Murchison Falls

Your 14-Day Uganda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari begins when you arrive in Uganda. Your Berengei Africa Safaris guide will meet you at Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala.

After a short briefing, begin your journey north toward Murchison Falls National Park. The drive takes you through Uganda's countryside, with opportunities to stop for lunch and photographs along the way.

If your arrival and road conditions allow, you can make an optional stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking — a useful addition to a long Uganda safari because it provides an opportunity to see southern white rhinos before continuing toward Murchison Falls. Continue to your lodge in or around the national park.

Murchison Falls Game Drive & Nile Boat Cruise

Morning game drive · Victoria Nile boat cruise · Big game viewing

Wake up early for your first major wildlife experience. After breakfast, head into the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park for a morning game drive. The savannah landscape provides opportunities to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, lions and numerous bird species. With patience and good timing, you may also encounter leopards.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, head to the Victoria Nile for a boat cruise toward the base of Murchison Falls. The cruise provides excellent opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants and other wildlife coming to the river to drink — a different perspective of the park's wildlife compared with a traditional game drive. Return to your lodge after the cruise.

Best Time for a 14-Day Uganda Safari

Uganda can be visited throughout the year, but many travelers prefer the country's drier periods for gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, game drives and boat trips. The commonly preferred dry periods are June to August and December to February. September and October can also provide good safari conditions, although rainfall remains possible.

Because this itinerary combines forests, savannahs and several regions of Uganda, travelers should still prepare for rain regardless of their travel month.

What to Pack
  • Waterproof hiking boots
  • Lightweight hiking trousers
  • Long-sleeved shirts
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Fleece or warm sweater
  • Gardening or trekking gloves
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Small daypack
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Extra batteries or power bank
  • Personal medication
  • Lightweight casual clothing
  • Passport and travel documents

For gorilla trekking, sturdy hiking shoes and waterproof clothing are especially important because Bwindi's forest trails can become muddy.
