Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park combined with Kigali's cultural highlights and Rwanda's scenic countryside — luxury comfort, private guiding, and permits handled for you.
This 4-day Rwanda Gorilla Safari is designed for travelers who want to experience gorilla trekking while also enjoying Kigali's cultural highlights and Rwanda's scenic countryside. The itinerary begins in Kigali, one of Africa's most vibrant and cleanest cities, and continues to Volcanoes National Park, home to endangered mountain gorillas and breathtaking volcanic scenery.
With luxury and mid-range lodge options, professional guiding, and private transport, this safari balances adventure, culture, and comfort. Every detail — from permits to park fees — is handled for you, so you can focus on the experience.
The highlight is a guided trek through bamboo forests and volcanic terrain to spend one unforgettable hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family — one of the most profound wildlife encounters on Earth. Volcanoes National Park is just 2.5 hours from Kigali, making Rwanda the easiest gorilla destination to reach.
Day 1Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional safari guide. Depending on arrival time, embark on a guided tour of Kigali — known for its safety, order, and charm. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving account of Rwanda's resilience, explore Kimironko Market where locals trade fresh produce and crafts, and enjoy panoramic viewpoints of the rolling hills. Dinner and overnight in Kigali.
Luxury upgrade: The Retreat by Heaven available.
Day 2After breakfast, depart Kigali for the scenic 2.5-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy terraced farms, tea plantations, and the iconic "Land of a Thousand Hills" views. Check into your lodge near the park. The afternoon is free to relax or join optional activities: guided nature walks or community visits. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3Early breakfast, then transfer to park headquarters for briefing. Trek through bamboo forests and volcanic terrain (1–6 hours) to find a habituated gorilla family. Spend one unforgettable hour observing these majestic primates — feeding, grooming, playing. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Optional afternoon: Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village (traditional dance, storytelling) or golden monkey trekking.
Trekking tips: Hiking boots, rain jacket, long trousers, gardening gloves, insect repellent, camera, and a reusable water bottle are essential.
Day 4After breakfast, check out and drive back to Kigali. Depending on flight schedule, enjoy souvenir shopping at local craft centres, a coffee experience tour, or lunch at a traditional Rwandan restaurant. Your guide will transfer you to Kigali International Airport for departure, marking the end of an unforgettable safari.
Flight recommendation: Depart after 5:00 PM to allow for relaxed touring.
Hiking boots, rain jacket, long trousers, gardening gloves, camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, reusable water bottle, and a warm layer for cool evenings at altitude.

We try to make our prices as all-inclusive as possible so that our clients do not need to reach for their wallets. The private 4×4 safari vehicle and guide are at the clients' exclusive disposal throughout, and the guide will accompany you on all sectors, assist with check-in, and share his knowledge of Rwanda's flora and fauna.
Bookings and availability can only be guaranteed once the required/invoiced deposit payment has reached our account. Gorilla permits are limited and sell out months in advance, especially during peak seasons (June–September, December–February). We strongly recommend booking at least 3–6 months ahead.
