Your 1-Day Mabamba Shoebill Birdwatching Tour starts early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. After a short briefing, you travel towards the Mabamba wetland on the shores of Lake Victoria. The early start is important because morning conditions can provide a comfortable environment for birdwatching, while the wetlands are generally quieter before the day's activities increase.

Upon arrival, you meet your local wetland guide and board a traditional canoe. The canoe takes you through the narrow papyrus channels of Mabamba Swamp in search of the Shoebill Stork. The Shoebill is the main attraction, but the wetland supports many other bird species, so your guide will help identify birds encountered along the way. Keep your camera ready as you move slowly through the channels. The canoe experience is particularly useful for photographers because it allows you to approach the wetland environment quietly. Depending on the conditions and bird movements, the excursion normally takes several hours.

Besides the Shoebill, Mabamba supports a variety of wetland and water-associated birds. Possible sightings include African fish eagle, pied kingfisher, African jacana, malachite kingfisher, purple swamphen, grey heron, egrets, cormorants and various wetland species. After the canoe excursion, you leave the wetland and enjoy lunch before beginning your return journey. If time allows, your guide can arrange a short stop around Entebbe or along the Lake Victoria shoreline before returning you to your hotel or preferred drop-off point. The tour ends in Kampala or Entebbe in the afternoon or early evening.
