3 Days Uganda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala/Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The Journey to the Misty Mountains

Your safari begins early in the morning. Our professional driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe at roughly 7:00 AM. After a brief introduction and briefing about the trip, you will begin the journey toward southwestern Uganda.

The drive is an adventure in itself, lasting approximately 8 to 9 hours, but the views make it worthwhile. About 80km from Kampala, you will make your first major stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe. Here, you can stand with one leg in the Northern Hemisphere and the other in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a perfect spot for photos, buying a few handmade souvenirs, and watching a fascinating water experiment that demonstrates the Coriolis effect.

You will continue the drive through the savannah landscapes of Ankole, famous for its long-horned cattle. A delicious hot lunch will be served at the Igongo Cultural Centre or a hotel in Mbarara town.

After lunch, the landscape changes dramatically as you enter the Kigezi region. You will wind through terraced hills, deep valleys, and winding roads that offer breathtaking panoramic views. By late evening, you will arrive at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will check into your lodge, enjoy a hearty dinner, and rest in preparation for the big trek the next day.

  • Drive Time: Approx. 8–9 Hours
  • Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: (Budget, Mid-range, or Luxury options available)

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Community Walk

The Ultimate Encounter

Rise and shine! Today is the highlight of your safari. You will wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters with a packed lunch. At 8:00 AM, the park rangers will conduct a briefing. They will group you into teams of eight, assign you a specific gorilla family to track, and explain the "Dos and Don’ts" to ensure your safety and the safety of the animals.

Led by armed rangers and expert trackers, you will enter the dense forest. The trek can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas spent the night. The hike can be challenging, involving steep slopes and thick vegetation, but the thrill of the hunt keeps you going.

Suddenly, the guide will signal you to stop. You have arrived. For one magical hour, you will observe the gorillas. You might see mothers nursing infants, juveniles swinging from vines, and the dominant Silverback keeping a watchful eye over his family. The sheer size and human-like behavior of these gentle giants are awe-inspiring.

After your one hour is up, you will trek back to the headquarters to receive your Gorilla Trekking Certificate.

In the late afternoon or early evening, if energy permits, you can go for a guided community walk to visit the Batwa Pygmies. These were the original inhabitants of the forest. They will demonstrate their hunting techniques, traditional dances, and knowledge of medicinal plants.

You will return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest, sharing stories of the day around a campfire (lodge dependent).

  • Activity: Gorilla Trekking (approx. 2-6 hours)
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, and Dinner

Day 3: Transfer Back to Kampala/Entebbe

The Scenic Return

After a relaxed breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and begin the drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. The return journey follows a similar route, giving you another chance to admire the rolling hills and lush banana plantations.

You will stop for a hot lunch in Mbarara at the Igongo Cultural Centre. This is also a great opportunity to visit the museum there if time allows, to learn about the history of the Ankole people.

Continuing toward the city, you will likely make a brief comfort stop at the Equator again for a coffee or a snack. You will arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the late afternoon or early evening. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel or directly at Entebbe International Airport for your flight home, marking the end of your 3 Days Uganda Gorilla Safari.
