KENYA SAFARIS
Kenya has around five Marine National Parks and Reserves, with Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve being one of the first, located about 140 km north of Mombasa. Established in 1968 by the Kenyan Government, Watamu Marine Park was created to protect marine life, and in 1979, the UN designated it as a World Biosphere Reserve.
Spanning 10 square kilometers, the park is home to many species that rely on the water for survival. There are over 600 fish species, along with 1,000 species living on soft and hard corals along its edges. Watamu is also home to 110 types of stony coral, various invertebrates, crustaceans, and mollusks. Visitors might spot whale sharks, manta rays, octopuses, barracudas, turtles, different birds, and the rare dugong.
