KENYA SAFARIS
Tsavo National Park was formed when the original Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks were split to allow for a railway line. Covering over 22,000 km², Tsavo is Kenya’s largest national park, located between Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya’s coastal region.
Tsavo East National Park was established in 1948 and covers 13,747 km². Known for its semi-arid landscape, it has open plains and short grasses, making wildlife easy to spot. Major attractions include the River Galana, the Yatta Plateau, which is the world's longest lava flow, and the Lugard Falls with unique rock formations. Other notable spots are the Mubanda Rock, a key water source for animals, and the Aruba Dam, Kanderi Swamp, and Tsavo River, which flows into the Galana River.
The park is famous for its wildlife, including lions once called "man-eaters" due to their attacks on railway builders. Other animals include elephants, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes, and various species of antelope and primates. Tsavo is also home to over 500 bird species, like ostriches, eagles, and weaver birds.
